I just bought a fab advent calender for my five year old foster son - if I do say so myself! It has 24 boxes that each contain a tiny Christmas decoration. The decorations then hang on a board making up the nativity story. For him, Christmas is about presents, trees and fairy lights – I wanted it to be about more. I want him to hear and know the real reason for Christmas, not just our commercial holiday. But it got me thinking...

When I was eight, I was lucky enough to go to Disney World at Christmas. I remember a song at one of the parades that went 'Jesus is the reason for the season'. A couple of years ago I was able to go back and enjoy the magic of Disney at Christmas time again (this time I went with chief G:em girl Amy Burns!) As I stood on main street USA eating cookies, watching fake snow fall at Mickey Mouse's Christmas party, there was no Jesus song, and I didn't even notice!

As I look at my Christmas celebrations over the last few years, I notice how, more and more, the 'God' bit is the extra on the side, as opposed to the reason for the season! Don't get me wrong, I haven't forgotten about Him, but He hasn't been as central as He could have been. If God is vital to my Christmas, do my actions show that? This month's interview is with someone whose actions definitely do.

So this Christmas, he is back where he should be – central and vital. Kathryn's article on the Wise Men helped me get some perseptive. Christmas is such an amazing time when God gave up everything to connect with us, its my time to step up to that example.

So girls, my challenge this month is to ask – is Jesus the reason for your season?
